ECO375: Applied Econometrics I - University of Toronto

This course, ECO375: Applied Econometrics I - provides an introduction to econometric theory and methods, with a focus on cross-sectional data. The course emphasizes both the statistical foundations and practical applications of multiple regression models, using real-world economic data. Main topics include simple and multiple regression models, nonlinear regression functions, and further issues in multiple regression. Students will also explore advanced econometric topics such as instrumental variables, two-stage least squares (2SLS), linear panel data, and limited dependent variable models.

In addition to covering the technical aspects, the course focuses on applying econometric methods to address various economic questions. Some advanced techniques for causal inference will be introduced, enhancing students’ ability to interpret relationships in data. Prior knowledge in economics, statistics, and mathematics is required, as reflected in the prerequisites, including microeconomics, econometrics, and statistics. Students are advised to complete courses such as MAT221, MAT223, or MAT240 for additional mathematical preparation.
