BUSI 1002: Management Accounting introduces the role of accounting information in organizational planning, monitoring, and control. It equips students with a foundational understanding of how management accounting systems operate, including their terminology, methods, and limitations. The course emphasizes essential concepts such as cost behaviors, costing systems, and the use of accounting tools for effective decision-making. By the end of the course, students will be able to apply managerial accounting techniques to plan, direct, motivate, and control business activities, preparing them for further studies and careers in business.

Main topics to be covered include cost concepts, job order costing, activity-based costing, cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, budgeting, and responsibility accounting. Students will also explore relevant costing methods for short- and long-term decision-making. BUSI 1002 is a prerequisite for BUSI 2505 (requiring a grade of C or higher) and BUSI 3008 (requiring a grade of C- or higher). It precludes additional credit for BUSI 1003 and BUSI 1005, and students must complete BUSI 1001 or obtain permission from the Sprott School of Business to enroll.
